So,
About 2 years ago, whilst studying for my engineering exams, I got bored and decided to start writing reviews of things I’d seen/heard etc. on BenFolds.org, an excellent message board centred around one of my favourite musical artists, Ben Folds. I posted a lot of reviews in very quick succession, and got it all out of my system pretty quickly.
Anyway, I figure I’ll start reposting them here one by one to start filling up this blog.
Here’s the first one, entitled “emoticons”. It’s actually number eight from the .org post, but it’s the first one posted here.
review 8. emoticons back in the day, the early days of the popularity of the internet, emoticons were made of letters. today, in the new fancy 21st century, our emoticons are now small images that are sent. The problem with this is, it goes against the whole point of emoticons in the first place. Emoticons were meant to express your emotions with “images” made up of standard letters, numbers and other random characters that have no place in the alphabet or numberbet. It’s like shakespeare deciding to include comics as part of MacBeth. I mean c’mon. What a load of crap. Instead of being creative and coming up with new cool pictures made out of text, for example the band-aid: (::[]::) or marge simpsons @@@@@@:) all you have to do is click on a fucking picture. Picture Emoticons are to writing on the internet what hallmark is to expressing feelings for someone. A bunch of uncreative, uninspiring crap. You want to know why people are getting dumber? Emoticons are a good place to start the hunt for the answer to that question.
I’ll eventually post more.
